MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Two people have been charged in connection with a TCF Bank robbery in Burnsville and are suspected in another bank robbery in Maple Grove.
On Wednesday, 50-year-old Rory Alan Mitchell was charged with one count of robbery while 43-year-old Kimberly Anne Hillage was charged with one count of aiding an offender in connection with the April 15 bank robbery. Both have no known home address.
According to the criminal complaint, at 4:15 p.m. on the day of the incident, Burnsville Police responded to a robbery at the TCF Bank. Mitchell allegedly entered the bank earlier, approached the teller and displayed a handwritten note that demanded money. He also verbally demanded money before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of money.
An investigation revealed that the robbery suspect, Mitchell, matched the description in another robbery at Wells Fargo bank in Maple Grove.
Later, a Burnsville hotel employee recognized surveillance images released and told police a hotel room was rented by Hillage and a man, Mitchell, was also at the hotel every night. They checked out two days before the TCF Bank robbery.
Mitchell and Hillage were arrested in Minneapolis on April 21.
Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom thanked law enforcement agencies for the investigation and the quick arrests.
“This was a great example of cooperative and outstanding police work by multiple local law enforcement agencies and the FBI. Detectives were persistent and worked well with other agencies to swiftly apprehend the suspects in these bank robberies,” Backstrom said.
Mitchell made his first court appearance Wednesday where his bail was set to $300, 000 without conditions and $250,000 with conditions.
Hillage’s first court appearance was also Wednesday and her bail was set to $100,000 without condition and $75,000 with condition.
Both are set to return to court on May 20, 2014.
